Estepona

"Straddling the mountains and the sea, it is one of the great tourist strongholds of the Costa del Sol".

Estepona, located in a privileged enclave, captivates its visitors in every corner. Its renovated old town, one of the most beautiful in Andalusia, offers tourists the opportunity to enjoy a real urban garden, “The Garden of the Costa del Sol”. Its network of white streets, adorned with colorful flower pots full of flowers, give it the essence of a coastal Andalusian village. It preserves its customs and traditions and has made them coexist in total harmony with its more modern and touristic aspect.

Its location between the sea and the mountains, its excellent climate, its modern infrastructure, its high quality sports facilities, its hotels, its gastronomy and its varied cultural offer, make Estepona a preferred destination on the coast of Malaga.

The oldest remains found in Estepona date back to prehistoric times, to the Neolithic, Copper and Bronze Ages, highlighting the megalithic necropolis of Corominas. Among the numerous Phoenician and Roman settlements, the ruins at the mouth of the Guadalmansa River stand out, which could belong to the Roman municipality called Salduba.

In the 10th century, during the period of splendor of the Cordovan Caliphate, the city of Estebbuna was founded, the origin of present-day Estepona. In 1456 it was conquered by King Henry IV of Castile and completely destroyed shortly thereafter. At the beginning of the 16th century, the Catholic Monarchs ordered the reconstruction of the walls of Estepona, due to its excellent strategic position, and ordered its repopulation with 30 families. In 1729, Felipe V granted the Privilege of Villazgo to a prosperous population of more than 600 residents, which continues to grow to the present day.
